Asus P4C800-E and CPU

News Reeder

I had asked a question before concerning a CPU for this board, and
graciously recieved some suggestions. I had a 1.6 that failed to work and
needless to say fustrated me that it didn't, the different models are
confusing. What I think I have learned is that the D1 stepping is the better
choice for this particular board? Are the 533mhz C1 stepping??

Thankyou

The "stepping" values do not necessarily reflect the quality of
the Intel CPU but the composition of its substrate. Download a
copy of the Intel P4 Processor Specifications Update and look up
the tables for the P4 processors that have been made. Since the
same substrate is also used for Celerons, do the same for it. I'd
go by the motherboard manual and forums related to it in choosing
an appropriate CPU.
