Asus P4C800 Deluxe: I look for info on "onboard LAN".

Hi,
I make editing video much.
I have Asus P4C800 Deluxe motherboard.
I have disabled onborad LAN in the BIOS because I have add a card of
capture video in the slot 2.
Among some days I will have to enable onborad LAN in the BIOS because
I will add a card. In fact I'd like to connect 2 PCs with networks.
Will I have problems with IRQ sharing?
thanks

bye Jones

IRQ sharing is not really an issue any longer, so long as you're using
Win2000 or WinXP.

That probably depends on the drivers for your
card and LAN than anything else. And which OS.

Fogar, what information were you given in the Canopus forums ?
The question is whether the RT card and another chip can share
an IRQ. The LAN chip isn't going to care - it should work - but
if the RT card has some real time interrupt latency requirements,
there could be a problem.

Why not just try it ? Enable the LAN chip, boot into WinXP, and
do some editing (rendering). Then, simultaneously, start a file
transfer over the LAN interface. See whether the RT works properly
while the LAN is operating.

Even if there is a problem, you might restrict your use of the
LAN until you are finished editing. Then, there will be less of
a chance of a problem between the two hardware devices.

When you enable the LAN in the BIOS, you'll need to install a
LAN driver. Check your install CD or go to the Asus download
to get files for the 3C940.

HTH,
Paul
