(i copied this post i made on forums.microsoft.com, sorry for the unneeded
verbiage)

hi all. i am running the latest vista, built 5728 RC1, i believe, on my asus
a8r32 mvp-deluxe motherboard. i am a fully supporting, registered vista user
with a valid product key. I would like to try out lots of the new features
in this build, but every 5 minutes or so, my system gets the blue screen
error and has to reboot. this happens no matter what i do. if i let it just
sit there, it does the same thing. it seems to be about every 5 or 10
minutes. one night i let my pc on while i slept, and apparently it rebooted
and rebooted all night long. i have every possible update that i could find
for my motherboard and video card and all that. my specs are : 2 gig samsung
ddr 400 ram, amd x2 dual core 4400+ 939 pin, ati x1600xt pci-e 256mb ddr3
video card, onboard alc882 HD audio, one wd 80 gig ide drive, one 300 gig
ide drive, one sata - I drive 120 gig - this is the one windows runs of off.
and i also have a sata - II drive, but windows is not installed on it. any
other questions about my system or setup please ask, as i really want to get
vista up and running! thanks, nate.

p.s. i AM able to boot into vista, and i can run just about anything i could
in XP with no problems. the issue is how to keep vista from rebooting after
5 or 10 minutes. if this was a sata issue, wouldn't vista fail to install,
as i saw in other threads?

Hi Nate,

Is your bios up to date? when you installed vista did you install the latest
ATI Vista BETA drivers for the motherboard? Which video card are you using?

Are there any errors in the event viewer in the system logs or the
application logs? Does the blue screen show a driver error? Are there any
extra periferrals installed for example a tv-tuner card, or a modem, etc..?
If so, remove any extra cards and try it again, if it does not reboot, then
we know that something is incompatible. Is it possible that your system is
overheating? Are your fans working? Is your system overclocked?

oh yeah i knew i forgot something. the error is: driver_state_power_failure

i have an ocz powerstream power supply with adjustable voltage. the voltage
was upped a little bit, and i returned it to normal, but still no help. i
will check the event logs, and no my system is not overclocked. in my bios,
under the overclocking section (this board has a very complex overclocking
section) everything is ser to auto, which is the default setting, and i have
heard of other people having problems with these boards also. bbl, thx

hi again. I am running windows live mail desktop beta from within vista now,
and have been up and running for about 20 minutes now, my longest period of
time using vista ever without a reboot.

the errors in event log that I had were as follows: Usbperf data collection
failed. Collect function called with usupported Query Type.

IRQARB: ACPI BIOS does not contain an IRQ for the device in PCI slot 2,
function 0. Please contact your system vendor for technical assistance.

on account of these errors I did 2 things: I unplugged all unnecessary usb
devices attached to my system (there were several that I forgot to unplug
and completely forgot about), and I went into bios and selected yes for
"plug and play aware OS". I am not sure if the second one helped, but it
sure looks like you were right about the extra peripherals causing errors.
thanks again rox for your support, and now I can finally experience vista!

You have the clue right there. Whatever card you have on the mobo in pci
slot 2 is hanging things up. Pull that card and see what happens. Try
switching it to different slots. I usually use the top slot or drop it down
to the last pci slot to see if the board can redetect it, thus allowing
Vista to communicate with the device correctly.
Since you told the BIOS to configure the mobo it is having trouble with that
one device.
