Asus A7V?

Can anyone tell me what is the highest CPU that will work with a original
first generation A7V board with the latest bios? Just wondering if those
Thunderbird 1.33GHz and stuff will work. I was using a Duron 1.2, but it
fried and I don't really need anything faster since this PC basically just
surfs the net for my dad. Thanks.

I would sure say: Thunderbird 1400MHz/100FSB or 1300/100.

I have heard about a XP-TMC multiclocker. With that you could drive a
(open) XP-Athlon 133, respective 266DDR FSB, too. Multiplies 100FSB as
it needs, to clock the CPU as it needs. AMD CpU´s are not so
underclockable as Intel are.

You could try the 133FSB Athlon (1333MHZ), but it will be undeclocked
to 1000MHz and possibly slower, here and there, than a Duron at
1200MHz. So far the uc works!

Otherwise, a 1000 Athlon (fatter cache, first and second) is already an
incredible machine. MB is also fast (KT133, and the possibilites making
a low-noise PC are growing.
If technical meanings are more urgent, I would suggest an Athlon with
1400MHz Thunderbird. The most preferable Frequence for High-Tech
enthusiasts.

My KT133A (The KT133A can drive up to the seldom 2600XP with
266DDR-FSB, or a 2400XP "Thoroughbred"!!!)
ECS Elitegroup K7VZA3.0, AMD Palomino 1800XP, GeForce4 Ti 4200 Ultra
- Windows NT 5.1

can only use 100mhz FSB AMD cpu's. I am using a Duron 1.3ghz myself. might
be voltage issues with something higher.

Yes, sure. The KT133 can drive 100MHz. The KT133A supports 133MHz.
But the fastest 100MHz AMD is, IMO (MP´s etc. not mentioned...), the
1400/100x14 MHz Thunderbird Athlon.
With the Upgrade it is possible to use any Athlon, also Barton Core ;-)
You have to look on the UPgradeware (XP-TMC) Homepage for
compatibilities....,

The latest BIOS is adding support for Athlon 2.7Ghz - my 4 year old A7V266E
series 2 board has always had Athlon 1800+ (real speed 1.533Ghz) with BIOS
rev 1006 - only prob I have is I cannot get it to support USB2 card.
