Assistance required! Missing CD hardware & 2 program dll files

I am unable to operate my 2 CD-Roms because My Computer does not even show
that I have one. It was working about a month or more ago. It seems that I
am also missing 2 dot dll files from my System Folder. Was going to run the
XP Pro Installation Disc to Repair Windows. This was when I discovered that
I could not even open my CD Reader or the CD Read/Writer

Search knowledge base security updates. I had the same problem.
Unfortunately I was advised to reinstall oem and now have bigger issues. I
found dialog about this problem too late. Hopefully you won't make the
same mistake.Good Luck

Thanks to all replys, but unfortunately none of the suggestions were
successful. My CD drives are still inoperable and still not showing in "My
Computer". I only show the A drive, C drive and other periphals. The 2
missing dot dll files are still missing. I hope someone can suggest other
things I can try.

Ron, look in Device Manager for the Drives. If there rt click and select
Uninstall. Restart and let XP reinstall them.

You keep mentioning the dot dlls. What are the actual names of the DLLS
missing.
Do the drives show in Administrative Tools | Computer Management | Disk
Management?

I just had the same problem. Tried the other ways but they didn't work
either. I went to Microsoft Download Center, under drivers, and downloaded
the Service Pack I Utility. It worked.
