Assigning Drive Letter to USB Drive

R

Robert M. Lincoln

I have two USB drives that I rotate weekly and use for my system backups.
However, each time I change the drives, a different letter gets assigned to
the drive. For example, currently, the drive is assigned as F: drive. Next
week, when I will change them, the drive letter assigned will be G: drive.
The following week, it will be assigned F: drive, etc. Everything else in
the system stays the same.

How can I make it so that each time I switch the drives, the letter will
stay the same, e.g., F: drive?

Thanks

Try this. Insert the first USB drive and right click My Computer, select
Manage. Go to Disk Management and in the lower right pane, locate the USB
device. Right click it and select Change Drive Letter and Path. Assign the
drive letter you wish. You may want to skip a letter or two to allow for
future hardware additions. Then remove the device and connect the second
USB drive. Repeat the procedure. As long as both aren't connected at the
same time, there should be no conflicts.
