assembly

I was going through my windows folders (XP professional ) to make back
ups of certain folders, when I came to the folder named (Assembly) in
the Windows folder it went to a folder named download.Well I clicked
on it and clicked on it for 5 minutes and never got to the final end.
Question what is supposed to be in the (Assembly Folder) and why are
there so many empty folder? Has anyone else come across this in there
Windows XP? Please reply this is bugging me to no end! Thanks for
your time.

Thank You Will, glad I didn't mess with it. I just thought it would
slow down the system.
