Hi,

What is the best aspect ration in height and width for a slide show in cm,
shown on a wide screen T.V. The slides are done in photoshop and what height
and depth you need in pixels, resolution 100 to create a slide which when
saved and then inserted in the presentation fits the slide perfectly.

For example I have found that a background slide of 960x720 pixels,
resolution 100 in photoshop, when saved and inserted on PowerPoint will match
the default size of the slide perfectly.

A normal TV ratio is

4:3 (ratio between the width and height)

or 1.33 times the height = width

so, then it's just a case of getting the pixels right (you can forget the
DPI)

If you stick to 800x600 (more resolution than a TV)...and leave plenty of
margin space, then generally you will be OK.

PCs are generall a ratio of 1.33 (e.g. 800x600, 1024x768 etc)
DVD is 720x480 pixels (which is a 1.5 ratio)

Optimizing your presentations for dvd video and TV:
The quality (resolution) of a TV is not as good as a computer monitor. Keep
these points in mind to get the best results.


a.. Avoid putting information too close the edge of your slides, otherwise
this information may be cut off when viewed on a TV
b.. Avoid very small text. A lot depends on the quality of the TV and how
far back the TV will be viewed from. Aim for no smaller than 30 point font
sizes
c.. Avoid very thin lines. Aim for at least 3 point line sizes
d.. Avoid certain colors. Red is notoriously bad for video
e.. Avoid very skinny / lite / thin / serif fonts. Aim for Arial
(sans-serif), bold and black weights
f.. Aim for dark backgrounds (dark blue), and light colored text (white /
yellow)

If you're trying to fill the wide screen without stretching the image you
need to make
the slides 16x9. I use 8x4.5. Are you using a computer as the source? If
the TV
has RGB or DVI inputs it will likely plug 'n play and tell the computer what
the native
resolution is. In most cases you can not clone the display but will need to
either
send to the TV only or use extended desktop for the slide to fill the screen.

As mentioned, DPI is not much of a factor here. Take Taj's reply and apply
it to
wide screen format. In Photoshop make your hieght and width ratio 8x4.5 and
it
will fill the same ratio slide perfectly. In PowerPoint make your Page
Setup 8x4.5
and you can fill that nice wide screen without distorting your content.
Much of this
process depends on your source for the TV and your content.
