Askew or Crooked Paper Feed on Lexmark 2400 Series All-In-One

Lexmark 2400 Series All-in-one, X2470

I just got one, and it works alright (scans and prints) except the
paper feeds or loads askew. Looking directly at the machine from the
front, the paper goes down first on the right, rotating the sheet
clockwise a bit. I would estimate the trailing edge of the paper (the
top in the feeding tray) is 3/16 of an inch off to the right.

I tired adjusting the detent to no avail. Is there anything I can do?
Is the problem common to these printers? Would it do any good to trade
it back to Wal-Mart, or would another one do the same?

I also previously had this problem on the Lexmark Z611. I just lived
with it. But now I want to print multiple cutout-able items both sides
of a page. Thus the skew is doubled and it's difficult to compensate
for.

Nehmo,

Try this if you already haven't: Adjust the left paper guide wide open if
the maximum paper width for the printer is 8 1/2" This will leave about
3/16" or 2 or 3mm of free play for the sheet to float around with, but is
the only way I have gotten a Lexmark X6170 multifunction to feed paper
flawlessly. My experience is that if you adjust the movable paper guide as
closely as you can to the left edge of any size sheet while the sheet is
butted to the right edge guide, the paper sheet will almost always twist and
jam as you described. If you always leave the above free play for any other
size of sheet, you will have no paper feed issues (at least I haven't! :)

Also, it might help if you fan a pack of paper (max is 50 sheets on a X6170)
from the bottom of the sheets away and upwards from you, slightly, if you
imagine you are holding them as reading a scroll.
