.art files and support by Windows XP?

I have old photos saved as .art files (apparently used by
largely by AOL) and found how to update these files to be
seen for Windows 2000 but can't seem to find any support
or downloadable s/w for Windows XP support. Anyone have
any ideas how to retrieve these old photos?

Hello John,
I didn't know to thank you for your help on a matter : I
have been looking for a solution regarding troubles with
photos that crashes explorer and all office apllications.
You answered to some people how to fix that by un-ticking
a tab label in the properties of the photos. Your answer
helped me a lot. I have been searching a solution for 1
month already and yesterday I found one of your answers
posted on 9/11/2003 subject "Windows locks when I go into
my pictures". I did chat you mention and now everything
works perfectly.
