Help please,

I have hit something on the keyboard by mistake and now everytinme I answer
an email I have a pye symbol where I want to write and a dot between every
word and an arrow pointing down and to the left at the end of every line. It
is sending me bonkers.

Um, looks like we are to guess that you are using Word to compose your
e-mails in your unidentified version of Outlook. Pre-2007 versions of
Outlook let you choose whether to use Outlook's embedded new-mail editor or
to use Word to compose e-mails wherease the 2007 version of Outlook forces
you to use Word.

You enabled the display of formatting characters when composing your e-mails
while using Word. The "pye" (misspelled) character is actually the end-of-
paragraph Pilcrow character (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pilcrow). The
dots show whitespace.

Since it is an issue with Word, you will need to configure Word to NOT show
its formatting characters.
