running windows xp on a Dell 9100 desktop, soundblaster 24bit sound card.
Problem is the sound is now what can only be described as 'tinny' and also I
have just noticed the headphone socket at the front has stopped working.

I have tried to different sets of speakers with the same results, and also
the headphones plugged into the back of the PC with no luck

Has the card gone kaput or does someone have any ideas what I can do?

You might try re-installing the drivers for your card.

Go to the mfr's website to get the latest pack. Do NOT get it from
Windows Update.

It sounds like there's something wrong with the card. Can you try
another card in its place or use onboard audio?

Try a different sound card (or use the onboard sound) and see if the problem
persists. If not, I'd say the card is FUBAR. Outside trying different
drivers, I'd also try uninstalling and reinstalling the card. Good luck.
