Arial Font Problem

MrBill

Has anyone experienced a problem with Arial Font where
non-bold characters don't appear. They take space in the
document but don't appear. I changed the color and they
still don't appear. Upper case letters show up as
expected from A-P then entering any other upper case
letter immediately forces the first set to disappear.
Bold characters work fine and if I change the invisible
letters to bold they appear. This happened after
installing Quicken and Turbo Tax. Any suggestions.

To give exact answer, I need to know what version of
windows you are running. But in general, Arial is a font
that comes with windows automatically. You need to go to
your windows/font folder, start-run type %windir%\fonts in
the command box exactly with the % signs, no space Or go
to control panel, Thems, fonts, and delete the corropted
arial file. then run windows setup and that will fix and
overwrite the corrupted font. Possibly your quicken was
not compatible with the windows version you are running,
or a virus. Just run windows setup again and it should be
fixed.

Thanks for the response. I am running Windows XP Home
addition. Earlier I went to the Control Panel Fonts
folder and tried to delete the font but got a Access
Denied message. Any thoughts? I was looking for a way to
restore the prior Arial font from windows as you
suggested but I can't seem to be able to delete it. How
do I run windows setup?

The problem was traced to the install of Quicken or
Turbo Tax. They installed several newer versions of 5
fonts. All worked except for Arial. Once I was able to
delete the Arial font I obtained another copy from a
friend. Installed it and everything was back to normal.

Try using the Expand button and your WinXP CD to replace the arial font
file. Directions for how to Expand a file can be found in this article:

xp

If your Windows was preinstalled and your install media does not include a
standard XP CD, look for a folder on the hard drive named "i386" that
contains the Windows setup files. The Windows CD or this folder is the
"source" for the replacement file that will be expanded to the
Windows\Fonts folder.
