Apply project to other source?

Hi!

I am new to Windows Movie Maker.
I made a project where I chose to import DV to wmf. After finishing the
project and not beeing satisfied with the quality (espacially for making
DVD-video) I regret editing in wmf-format. Now if I cound import DV to avi
and apply the project settings to this file then everything would be great.
Is this possible? I guess if the .mswmm project file could be edited then I
could change the source name.

Hi Arne....when you use the Movie Maker 'capture' function you will come to a
page asking you to choose your video setting. At this point specify that
your video be saved in DV-AVI and your DV video will be saved in the original
quality of you video.
This will facilitate further editing and again saving your completed video
to DV-AVI format when you save the movie. Understand, however, that your
saved video files will be huge and consume up to 178 megabyte per minute of
video...so just make sure you have enough hard disk space. After you save
your edited file in DV-AVI to make a dvd, you can also save it in 'high
quality ntsc' to hold on your computer...and then go and delete the huge file
you created originally. Good luck.

This is fine for new projects but not much help for my existing project. I
had hoped there was a way I could avoid repeating the whole editing prosess
with an AVI source. Since the source will be equal when it comes to the
length of each clip it should theoretically be possible to edit the project
file and replace the old source fil e with a new AVI source.

Hi Arne,

Check the Managing > Source Files > page of my site... you might be able to
make a much high quality WMV file and substitute it for the one you
captured, with it working in your existing project.
