Application of Message Rules in Windows Live Mail

Can someone please point me to an explanation of exactly when the rules are
applied? I have rules set up to move messages into my Storage Folders, but
they don't seem to go there immediately upon receipt. I can see this as I
see them in Unread in Quick View, but if I look in the folder they should go
to, they are not there. Perhaps I should not bother with the Quick View?
