AOpen MP915-X - cannot find a CPU

W

Wolfgang's Daddy

I'm looking to purchase an AOpen MP915-X, and I'm not clear about
the CPU. The specs claim it needs a Pentium-M or Celeron-M with
a Socket 479, but all I can find is CPU that are Socket 478.

Any body clare to clarify this? Or point me to a website that carries
the Socket-479?

The intent is to keep this cheap, so I really prefer a Celeron, and
from AOpens
recommended list the Dothan 400MHz 1.30GHz M350 would be my
preference.

TIA

That MB is 'special', and thus CPUs are limited, AND expensive!

You've selected a small form factor system that uses a mobile CPU, normally
used in laptops.

It'll consume less power than a desktop CPU. It will also cost more. I
believe that Socket 479 may be out of mainstream production: it has been
replaced by Socket M, which is similar (but not compatible).

If you want cheap, you may do better to stay with Socket T (LGA 775) based
systems. There's a much larger variety of of CPUs available for that.

I can't offer specific advice. My own homebuilt systems tend towards CPUs
that consume a hundred Watts or two.

Return address scrambled. Change nkbob to bobkn.

A celeron-M or Pentium-M always use socket 479. There is sometimes
confusion and you sometimes see them described as socket 478. Don't
worry about it. You can fit a large range of CPUs to this, up to
Core 2 Duo Mobile Processors.

Correction: The Celeron processors have always changed clothes.
It appears that there is now a split between socket 479 motherboards
supporting Celeron M 3xx and Pentium M, and boards which support
Celeron 4xx and Core 2 Duo mobile. That is, the Celeron M (socket
479) has got 'new clothes'. I don't know if the new boards are
backward compatible with Celeron 3xx.
