There are probably other ways of doing that, but the one that I just
remember seeing was using SpywareBlaster (latest version) under its
Tools -> Misc. IE Settings tab panel where it lets you enter what string
you want to display in the title bar (postfixed onto whatever URL was
used). This only alters the title postfix for the current user logged
on. If you have multiple accounts on your computer, you'll have to log
onto each and use SpywareBlaster to change them (unless it alters a
registry key that you could copy its value under other account's
profiles). I would think Microsoft's IEAK would also let you edit the
title postfix (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ieak/default.asp).

That does not address the OP's inquiry. The KB article you referenced
lets the author - of the web page! - decide what *prefix* to present in
the IE title bar. It does NOT cope with the *postfix* that someone
added in a customized version of IE. The KB article refers to the title
where:

<pageTitle> - Microsoft Internet Explorer provided by <customTitle>

where whomever writes the web page can add the <pageTitle> string to
IE's title bar. It does NOT address how to eliminate the <customTitle>
string. That was a customization added by AOL to continue spam
themselves to a user. Presumably Kyle got rid on his non-standard
provider, AOL, now uses a different provider, and wants to get rid of
AOL's constant spam.

Besides the methods that I already mentioned, maybe reinstalling IE
might overwrite the necessary files to get rid of the customize postfix
in the title.

That article http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=176497 appears to have been
rewritten recently. The procedure for changing the window title is not as
clear as it used to be or could be. There's a better explanation at
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/faqs/how.htm#debrand But, it's a fairly
common question and I think Henri nailed it. ;-)

Don
