All right. I've successfully upgraded a brand new Dell E521 from Windows
Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate after one glitch. The updated Video
Card Driver caused the initial upgrade attempt to Blue Screen on the first
reboot. My upgrade information doesn't appear to have been stored on either
my local "Vault" or the online "Vault." However, after going to the AMD/ATI
Website and downloading and installing the latest Vista "Beta Driver" for the
ATI X1300 Pro Video Card, the install tried to continue. It couldn't find a
file it needed. I went back to the original boot of Vista Home Premium.
Redownloaded the Upgrade program and finally finished the upgrade
successfully.
The lesson here is to absolutely run the upgrade advisor and fix the
problems it finds before trying to finsih the upgrade.
Still cannot find the stored information in either "Vault." I will make an
image of the system as it sits right now, but what vehicle does MS have in
place to allow a user that bought the UpgradeAnytime, to re-install Windows
from scratch incase of a catastrophic failure? Does the upgrade also upgrade
the Activation Key to the new version?
