Anyone using Radeon X800 - ID ox554f - on Linux?

I've downloaded latest fglrx from ATI, and latest XOrg with radeon driver,
but still can't get this PCIE card properly recognised. I'm using Suse 9.2,
32 bit mode,
with AMD64.

SaX2 always finishes up with --

(WW) No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:5:0:1) found
(EE) No devices detected.

1) Am I right in assuming that PCI 5:0:0 is the primary, and 5:0:1 the
secondary, and that these relate to the DVI and VGA ports? If not, what?

2) As it is complaining about 5:0:1 and not 5:0:0, does this imply that it's
happy with 5:0:0? If so, how do I get it to accept 5:0:1? I'm only wanting
to use one screen.

3) Anyone else with this card that's actually in use? How? What distro?

Many thanks

Allan

Dunno about question one and two, but..

Fdora Core 3 Heidelberg detects my X800 XT PCIE card, no hardware
acceleration from the default drivers. You'll have to install the Ati
xorg driver to get hardware accel.

I dunno where you get your distros, but I go to www.distrowatch.com

Hello James

Thanks for the reply.

Suse also has support for several X800 series cards, but not one that
matches mine.

The important point is the chipID, 0x554f. Can you say what yours is?

HI Allan

If you get anywhere with this X issue keep me posted pls. I'm getting
exactly the same error as you. Using Redhat Fedora 3, very latest.
With X800 card.

Hello Neil

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one. I'd have been even more so had yours
been working!

I'm doing lots of googling and testing and will post again if there is a
break-through.

Hello Neil

I've made some progress. I can now configure the card without any protest,
but it hasn't made any difference to the speed as measured by glxgears,
i.e.. slowwwww.

I finally got it to accept a ChipID of 0x5548 instead of 0x554f. I need to
do some more investigation as it appears there are missing symbols with
fglrx, and with the radeon driver direct rendering is disabled. I'll post
again if I make more progress.
