Anyone familiar with Winsockfix.exe?

Upgraded my mobo recently, but upon a repair install of XP, my tcp/ip
'transport' was messed up.
Research led me to this program, 'Winsockfix.exe' [actually, for XP,
WinsockXPfix.exe].

This program did seem to 'repair' my tcp/ip and I can now get on the
internet. But it seems I remember a single post in some forum [I was doing
a lot of reading in different tech forum postings] that mentioned this
program might solve internet connection problems, but might also mess up
networking functions? It was just one post I remember...buy my memory is
fuzzy; maybe I was reading a post on some other subject?

I can get on the internet with my DSL modem hooked directly to my main XP
computer, but I can no longer redirect things through my Linksys router.

Is anyone more familiar with this freeware program, Winsockfix.exe? Are
there known side effects?
Any ideas as to solution? All worked perfectly before I changed out my
mobo; just traded over my old hard drive and did the XP repair install.
I've reconfigured both my modem and linksys router with all the 'old'
settings as well [as part of my troubleshoot].

One person's experience isn't a statistic, but I've used both
winsockxpfix and lspfix on several computers without any subsidiary
problems. I typically run both, particularly since I'm not real sure
what lspfix actually fixes in default mode. In any event, my experience
shows that both are pretty much benign.

I use this tool (WinsockXPfix.exe) religiously without problems. Have you
ruled out the Linksys as the problem -- or reset the router to the default
state to see if that corrects your problem?
