Any Tools to Mount ISO File

J

jwardl

By "mount", are referring to the burning of an ISO file to CD/DVD, or, to a
means of accessing an ISO file directly by emulation of a physical CD/DVD
drive?

If either of these is correct, I know for a fact that Alcohol 120% will do
it, because I've used the program to perform both functions more than once.

Are you referring to something else?

Are you talking installing A120% under Windows XP or Vista RC1 ? I've tried
install Alcohol 120%, the last 4327 build and it tells me it's blocked due
to compatibilty issues.

Well, as Gilda Radner used to say:

Ohhh... that's very different.
Never mind.

To be serious, I really hadn't tried with Vista yet. I assume you've tried
compatibility mode?

Search for VirtualCloneDrive. It's free.

I also have problems finding a good app that can mount images in vista RC1,
but until i found a better solution i use IsoBuster to extract the image and
then use it.. I use Vista RC1 64Bit

Yep, I've tried it in XP 2 mode, but it would appear that Microsoft has
purposly blocked this program, versus the program not working. The pop-up
window hits, right after you say it's OK to run the exe. and it's not the
normal couldn't load driver or such message, like whne I tried to install
3dmark05, I get an error message that is fixed if I used XP2 mode.

Diskeeper version 10 gets farther into teh install, but then it stops on
it's own and tells me to read the diskeeper readme file on which OSes are
suppose (funny that XP2 mode doesn't trick it either)

Might be helpful if you said which version of Vista you are talking about.
Might be a difference between 86 and 64.

If you have Nero, all you have to do is put a blank DVD in the drive,
and double-click on the ISO file itself you downloaded from Microsoft.
Nero start, then mount it and add the files to the job automagically.

Just be sure to
1) Make sure you choose "DVD" as the type of job.
2) Make sure you set the burn speed to 2X (at most). 1X would be
safest, but on my Apple Intel PC, I burnt it at 2X, and got a good,
clean burn.

If you do these two things, all you have to do is click on the "Burn"
button, and you should get a good burn. I would make sure to set Nero
to validate the burned disk, just in case.

How would one use Alcohol 120% in Vista, if it hasn't been burned and
installed yet?

I would sure like to see the answer to that one.

Otherwise, he obviously meant doing it in XP (unless, of course, he
already had Vista Beta1 or 2 installed).

I run the plain ole x86 stuff. Though I have a AMD64 CPU I original bought
just for this reason, I don't see any need or value in the 64 bit stuff for
my day to day life.

That's whatI was kinda wondering on what quesiton he had. On the MSDN page,
they had a Aug preview which I had loaded and then two weeks later the RC1
came out. So I figured if I was already running vista, that maybe he was
too.

Alright, this is getting frustrating, Isobusters timelimited demo expired,
so i have tryed to install DT 3.33 and CloneDrive and none of them wants to
be installed in Vista RC1 64bit. Any more suggestions?

So far I have found nothing that will work in x64 RC1. Did the demo of
Isobuster work ok?

VCdControlTool.exe does not work for me in Vista (including RTM) -- you can
get quite far running the exe as admin (XP SP2 mode may or may not help), but
even though the ISO seems to mount, it is not viewable in Explorer.

I'd really like to see this fixed -- I shouldn't need to go to 3rd party
shareware or commercial apps to overcome this. Please fix or replace
VCdControl for MSDN subscribers. Thanks!

Ahead's Nero 7.5.7.0 works just fine with Vista.

I don't have the beginning of the thread...

Try WinRAR. It can extract content of ISO files. It is not a mount
capability, but is a very simpe solution.
