Who cares anyway

I have a Sun workstation, which only supports SCSI.

I have had a UMAX 1220S SCSI scanner, but the thing is pretty alful
really. The SCSI connector is a 25-pin DIN plug!! (I doubt that meets
the SCSI spec in itself).

I have never reliebably found this to work properly with my Sun,
despite having a 68-25 pin lead, and the scanner being the only device
on the bus. I often had to switch the scanner and Sun on/off several
times before the Sun would reconise it at boot time. (I use a lot of
SCSI disks, tape drives, so know about termination issues).

Just to make things worst, the PSU for the scanner has died. I tried
another 12V 1A one, which had the right polarity, but it will not
work. Whether this is the PSU or the scanner I don't know, but I'm fed
up with the UMAX anyway.

So I'm looking for suggestions for a SCSI scanner that has 68-pin SCSI
conectors, but is not a high-end model. I only want it for occasional
home use, but are well aware I'm going to pay a premium for SCSI, as
the world seems to have gone USB now.

Any suggestions?

Can't you get a 50-pin to 68-pin adapter? I saw some the other day,
in various pin-style and gender configurations. They cost around $20.
Can't guarantee it'll work, but it might.

Generally better to get actual cable with what you need on each end.
Last time I perused eBay, looked like every conceivable combination could
be had there, cheap.

Right, but either way, it should terminate the unused pins, and cheap
doesnt always do that.

It sounds better to just add a second inexpensive FAST SCSI card,
more appropriate for a scanner than UW.
