AntiSpyware Won't Save Settings

I have downloaded the most recent version of MS AntiSpyware.

Everytime I launch it from the system tray, it wants to take me through the
Setup Assistant. It is as though it cannot remember that I have set it up
already.

In addition, I am unable to get the settings for Autoupdater and Scan
Schedule to "stick". They keep reverting to not updating and not scanning.

I have exactly the same problem. Was running OK since about Feb 2005, then
sometime after 27 Sep, it stopped savings settings. I have run all the
updates, but have to do everything manually as it "forgets" all my settings
and schedules.

Anyone else having this? or more to the point, anyone else have a fix for
this?

Thank you. It is good to know I am not alone.

Mine had also worked since I first installed it. I only realized it had
stopped today.

Something happened.

Now, maybe someone knows what the problem is.

BTW, I completely uninstalled, reinstalled and manually downloaded updated
spyware definitions and code updates.

The problem persists.

I have made a SLIGHT advance. After scanning this forum, I tried the
uninstall/reinstall option. I downloaded the latest version (Build 1.0.615)
and installed that, then ran the updater. It now saves settings PROVIDING
that I schedule that scan in the AM. It is like it cannot recognise that 24
hour clock. So, if I schedule the scan for 20:00, it saves it as 08:00, if I
schedule it for 18:00, it saves it as 06:00.

A bit better, but less than ideal.

OK, well searched some more and found advice to change system clock to 12
hour format, then set scheduler in MSAS and then reset system clock back to
24 hour and that seems to have sorted it.

Make sure that you delete the C:\Program Files\MSAS folder and all contents
after you uninstall MSAS and befoe you reinstall it.

Good luck

Hi you two guys;
Your making such good progress on your own, I almost hesitate to step in but
here's some help:

Some solutions here from Tom Emmelºt:

Uninstall from ADD/REM,
Delete in C:/windows/Program files, MSAS subfolders and
the MSAS folder; and delete in
C:\windows\system32 the following files:

GCCollection.dll
hashlib.dll
gcUnCompress.dll

Run a regcleaner (Ccleaner Issues)

http://www.ccleaner.com/ccdownload.asp

Also use the temp cleaner of Ccleªner.

Do a fresh install with version .615 (latest)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?
FamilyId=321CD7A2-6A57-4C57-A8BD-
DBF62EDA9671&displaylang=en

The search function in the HTTP newsviewer only searches the current page, how
lame is that, and that's one reason your having such problems finding the
solution. This was posted here in Announcements on 10/20 in thread "MS
antiSpyware Problem" by Warren.
Give a real newsreader like Outlook Express a try, you'll be a lot happier.

Thank you for all the help.
I returned today to find this additional information, did what "Dave M"
suggested (including the download of CCleaner; thanks for that) and it now
appears to be working again.
