antispyware unable to access internet

M

meh

I have tried to run a manual update on my microsoft
antispyware, but get a message saying that updates failed
because microsoft antispyware could not detect an
internet conntection. This does not happen with other
updates I run. Does anybody have some idea of how I can
fix this? Thanks...

Are you running Sunbelt Counter Spy also? I had the same problem and had to
uninstall Counter Spy to get MSAS manual updating to work again. I believe
they use the same internet services to get online updates and Counter Spy
blocks MSAS from getting the updates.
Hope this helps.

Shoot, didn't read it properly. Ed is correct, sorry for the misinformation.

I've seen this briefly on one machine. Unfortunately, there can be a number
of causes. If Internet Explorer or Outlook Express is set to work offline,
you'll get this message.

For me, the fix was to do an update--control panel, add or remove programs,
Microsoft Antispyware, change, update. This is like a repair
install--should only take a few minutes, and may correct a variety of
different issues.

I have same issue: "can't access internet". My other anti-
spyware is Ad-aware(free version) and I don't imagine
it's capable of blocking anything; it only cleans after
the fact.

I could try uninstalling Ad-aware I suppose, but I like
it (AA) more than I like MSAS so far.

Ad-aware isn't interfering with Microsoft Antispyware. I've seen this
symptom cleared up by an update install--control panel, add or remove
programs, Microsoft Antispyware, change, update.
