Is there a definite position from Microsoft on whether
this will be a free product or if it will not be free. If
not, what will the cost be?

Hi

From Bill himself................ ;)

"At the RSA conference, Bill Gates announced the consumer and
enterprise strategy for Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware.
"The personal version of the final Windows AntiSpyware software (will
be) available at no additional charge to licensed Windows customers as
part of the Windows value proposition. The offering will offer full
functionality to consumers, including the ability to detect and remove
spyware, continual protection that helps guard against more than 50
ways that Web sites and programs can put spyware on a PC, and
protection against the latest threats through the combined efforts of
the SpyNetT community and Microsoft researchers. For business
customers, with more complex infrastructure support, management and
deployment needs, Microsoft plans a managed anti-spyware solution that
will be available as part of a paid solution."

Yes. Its free to XP SP2 users for home use. Microsoft
are planning on buying out Sybari Software Inc technology
to be incorporated into ISA Server for the corporate
market, which will cost.

Where are you getting information that the corporate version of MSAS is
coming from a different program and will only be incorporated in ISA server?

I think you are way off.

I think this is a reasonable speculation. Sybari soes antivirus and
antispam for Exchange. I'm considering a parallel to OneCare--with
ingress/egress protection at the server level--Exchange and ISA Server, and
managed desktop coverage via antispware and the desktop antivirus solution.

I'm sure that OneCare will probably come in a few different formats but that
isn't eliminating MSAS so I don't see it eliminating the Corp version of
MSAS either. What if we don't need AV or spam control but simply want spy
control? MS has not said you must buy all to get one so this kind of
statement that the originator of this thread is making is only serving to
cause confusion and wild speculation - two things we seem to have more than
enough of in these ngs since nobody seems to be able to search through the
existing data. As a side note, if MSN Search is supposed to be the MS
answer to Google then where is the ability to search these ngs online?

Bill Sanderson

My feeling is that the disabled search is intentional, but I don't know what
the reasoning is. I'd originally thought that there was a technical issue,
but it has gone on too long to be simply that, in my very inexperienced
view.
