anti virus tools

I have read a number of recomendations on this newsgroup for the
Malwarebytes anti malware tool..I use avast antivirus, and my question is
it it advisable to have both running in real time?

Malwarebytes requires the paid-for version to have it run in the background real-time.
Advisable? Too many personal opinions to get a fair answer to that question.
Yes, it will operate along with Avast and there is a good chance that what one misses the other will
catch.
Anti-malware and anti-virus programs can co-exist, but two antivirus programs usually just fight
each other.

Yes that's what I understand what I dont seem to find an answer to is this,
is malwarebytes an antivirus tool or an antispyware tool and it seems that
there is a grey area between the two. At the moment I am running both in the
background and there does not seem to be a conflict. Oh and I know this is a
windows xp group so sorry for posting it here but you guys always seem to
be the most helpful.

MBAM is an anti-spyware utility, one that's usually updated at least
once-a-day. There's no reason whatsoever to keep the free version of MBAM
installed. (And should MBAM find & remove anything, chances are there's
more to do to remove all traces of all hijackware, something that's best
left to experts in such matters IMHO).

Only the paid version of MBAM provides realtime protection.

I use Microsoft Security Essentilas and have never had a problem (virus,
spyware or malware).

You're proposing to uninstall Malwarebytes and reinstall it every time
you want to do a scan?!?! That would be a colossal waste of my time,
not to mention that when you need it most you might not even be able to
get on the internet, or to their web site, or reinstall it even if you
can get there.

It is not advisable to have two anti-virus programs running in real time;
they can trip over each other and report on each other.
You can however run spyware detectors and malware detectors at the same
time; malwarebytes is more a malware detector & I haven't heard of it
creating problems plus had it running here ini addition to norton AV at one
tme.

You did, when you posted the misinformation. Sh_t happens; just correct it
and go on about your business. If I'm wrong, meaning you are right, that
there is "no reason to keep ... installed" then you should follow it up with
details of why. Why?

AHH,, PCBUTTS, the infamous poser, pretender, plagiarist and pirated
software expert. Ignore this one at all costs, even if he looks like he's
right.

If you want, try a google search for "the real truth mvp" and "pcbutts".

I would ignore everything written by that nutter by the name of
Pig-Bear. He knows nothing about computers and all he says is to keep
installing all the anti-virus/anti-spyware software available on this
planet and keep scanning your system and hope that they will find
something!.

He is completely idiot and he needs his brain to be examined after
October 2010 when these newsgroups will shut down. Otherwise he won't
be welcomed on M$ Forums.

So are you saying that he is a very famous man giving advice on
M$hit newsgroups?
