Anti virus stalls IE

After upgrading Norton Internet Security from 2003 version to 2004 version, I experience the following any time I am working with compressed files. IE (6.0) is slowed and/or frozen and in the lower right corner of my screen a message pops up saying "waiting for anti virus scan of file thumbs.db". I can click Stop Scan and the browser will resume as before but this can happen every several minutes. Original upgrade was download from Symantec and I thought perhaps there was a corrupt file. I reverted hard drive to prior time and problem went away. When Symantec CD arrived I reinstalled from the CD and problem is back. Did a file search for "thumbs.db" and turned up nothing. Sorry for length of this message. Hope it's clear and hope someone can help. Thanks.

What you are experiencing is normal Thumbs.db is the file created by
windows and is related to the thumbnails that appear in each folder as you
browse them. Norton AV will scan these files if you have it set to scan
aggressively (which is what you should have it set at). If the thumbs.db is
a large file, it will take relatively longer to scan.
