Another XP Startup Problem

Okay, I've read most of the posts regarding XP startup problems. Mine comes
close to one of the posts, but not quite. I have an HP that is less than 2
years old with XP home edition. At start up, it freezes at the Windows XP
blue window and stops responding. I have restarted in safe mode using the
different options including trying to get to the command prompt to use
systerm restore all getting me to the same Windows XP window and no response.
The first time I used the last known configuration option, it did indicate
recovering from a registry problem. But I still couldn't get beyond the
Windows XP window. I have not added any new hardware. I did remove spyware
a few days ago, but had no immediate problems with startup at that time.
Any thoughts or suggestions? At wit's end.
Thanks!

The information is provided "as is", it is suggested you research for
yourself before you take any advice - you are the one ultimately

getting into before you jump in with both feet.

I can't get past startup. So, I don't know how to CHKDSK. One of the options I tried in safe mode did perform some form of checking o c:, but I still got stuck in the Windows XP window.
