another section break (continuous) question

Hello everyone,

In Word 2000, I am doing a mail merge with a 1 page doc using an Excel file as data source. This is just a short 1 section doc, yet after selecting a record number and merging, the Form letter now displays a Section break (continuous) at the end of the document as well as a solid horizontal line across the page below the Section break (continuous) comment. I've not come across this in the other issues concerning section breaks. I hope somebody can help me. Thanks a lot.

If this is a letter-type merge, Word normally separates records with a Next
Page break and puts a Continuous break at the end of the merged document. If
you're merging just one record, I would expect (or at least not be
surprised) to see one Continuous section break, but I'm not sure why you
appear to be getting two, if that's what you are getting. Can you clarify
the "solid horizontal line"? Does it print? Is it a border, a drawing line,
or what?

Suzanne,

I've tried a 1 of 1 record letter-type merge as well as a 1 of many record merge and still get this solid (about a 3 point) horizontal line across the page, right below the "section break continuous" ID. This line does not print, nor does it show up in Print Preview. It's just disconserting. Furthermore, when I delete the "section break" at the end of the merged document, the line too is deleted.

Also, I do not have any section breaks on the original doc. Beats me what's going on. Hope this clears things up. Thanks.

What view are you in when you see this? I've just tried this with a
letter-type merge, and if I'm in Normal view I see only the "Section Break
(Continuous)" marker. In Print Layout view I do see a gray line below the
section break (followed by one empty paragraph). I think this just indicates
the end of the merge. I hadn't really noticed it before, but I would suggest
to you that (a) it is normal and (b) there is no way you can get rid of it,
so (c) you may as well just get used to it. Sorry.

Suzanne,

After some more attempts, I too determine the gray line to be nothing more than just an indicator that the last record was merged. I appreciate your help.
