I have several files on a CD-R disk that I'm trying to delete (mainly
graphics), but it won't let me delete anything from the disk. My computer
came with the "CD Writing Wizard (lic. by Roxio)". When I try to delete I
get a box saying that files are read-only, do I want to delete. When I say
yes, I get another box that says cannot delete read-only files. When I go
into properties and uncheck "read-only," it won't let me - I get an error
message saying "error occurred... access denied." Is it not possible to
erase files from CD-R disks in WP XP? Thanks so much for any help. :)

CD-R disks use a dye layer that is burned once. You can
destroy the directory entry effectively deleting the file.
But you don't gain any space. CD Writing Wizard is not
familiar to me, but it may not allow deleting on CD-R.

Suggest you copy the files you want to keep to another CD
and destroy the CD you want to delete the files that are
troublesome.

You might try Roxio EZCD Creator, a "better" program.

You can't delete files on a CDR using XP burning software. You would need
Roxio Easy CD Creator with Drag to Disk or Direct CD to get the "effect" of
deleting a file on a CDR.

Hi Brandy,

CD-R's are write only. Once written and closed, you cannot add to them or
erase from them. You will need to use CD-RW's to do that and also the
appropriate packet writing software.
