another MX record need for this???

W2k AD domain set up.
Just recently installed a new E2k3 server into an existing E2k org. E2k is
listed as the master and the E2k3 is listed as a member. Both are standard
editions. I can receive mail but not send it. I move 1 mailbox, mine, but
i can not send mail. Receives just fine.

What did I miss ????
Do I need to add another MX record to send mail???
I get an error from the system admin saying unable to relay. Overall goal
is to move all mailboxes to new server and remove the E2k server in it
entirety.
If I change the E2k3 server to master will that work ???
Open up relaying on the E2k server (heaven forbid) ???
Is it the MX record in the internal DNS server, because OWA does not work on
new server either...

TIA

This is an interesting error. It, however, very likely does not have
anything to do with DNS or MX. You need to have the Exchange NewsGroup
people help you with this.

Since you mentioned master/member, I take it that both servers are in the
same RG. Look at the connectors you have defined in that RG and see if you
are limiting access to only the E3K server. Without more info regarding your
config, it's hard to make an informed recommendation.

Actually this is more of an Exchange question.

Who are you trying to send mail to, a recipient internally or externally?

MX records are for stipulating what server receives mail for a domain, not
for sending.

The Master and Member settings are for Routing Group members. That wouldn't
have anything to do with what you're trying. The RG Master updates link
state info to the Members in a Routing Group. That's pretty much it.

What other errors are you getting, check your Event log? Have you enabled
Message Tracking and run a test to see where it's getting stuck? You can
also enable diagnostic logging in the Exchange server properties in the ESM.
They will report to the Event viewer.
