Anonymity

Hi,

I'd like to know how to hide my IP-address and other information, such as
the host I'm posting through, thus becoming anonymous. I do not want to post
through mail2news gateways, since this will only work with newsgroups. I
want to be anonymous all the time, e.g. also when I connect to a server of a
website, let's say www.cnn.com IOW, the moderators of cnn.com shouldn't
be able to see my real IP-address etc.
Any idea's? OS is windows-xp BTW

Thanks in advance!

The best thing you can do is to use a fake e-mail address in newsgroup
forums rather than the real e-mail address you are using now. Hiding your IP
address is what spammers try to do. You are not one of those, I hope.

Hi.

Well one way to go would be to connect through a public proxy. Then the page
you connect through would not get your but the proxy's IP address.

If you are on a public computer and cannot change the internet settings then
one way to go would be using some public page that rerouts your request so
that the target gets the pages ip, not yours. Example: You can go to
altavista.com and use their translate page feature to hide your IP. Just
enter the URL you wanna view into their translation motor and translate it
say from german to english, although its already in english... etc.. works
for me. Very troublesome of course but works for public places.

Best wishes,
Tarmo

Hello, Steganos do software for this purpose:
http://www.steganos.com
Some time ago I tried it and found that it slowed down the internet
connection considerably as it uses "unsecured" servers that it finds around
the internet and then uses said servers IP address, the number of times that
the IP address changes can be adjusted. The other "down side" to this was the
occasional warning that popped up stating "This company does not allow its
employees to access certain websites during working hours"!!! so I dumped
it. Hope this helps.TDP.

Good advise. I never give out my real address, except to 4-5 people that I
know. Get a fake Yahoo account and give that out to those that *require* an
email address.

But if you have enough money - anyone can be traced.

The fake address doesn't have to be associated with Yahoo or any other
organization. For example, my fake address is (e-mail address removed), something I
just made up. Of course I had to set it up in "accounts" in Outlook Express,
my email program. No coordination of any kind with my ISP was required. I
only use this fake address in newsgroups. I use real addresses for
everything else, but I have several. Responses to one of them go into my
"junkmail" folder.
