Annoying dropdown lists on search boxes

BJM

I don't remember having installed anything or setting any
features in big name search engines such as Google and
Yahoo that would produce them, and have never seen them
before, but my search engines' textbox fields seem to have
grown dropdown lists. They do not display if you click
right in the field, but if you accidentally click on the
edge of the field, you get a dropdown list populated by
recent search criteria from that specific engine.

Does anyone know where this came from or how to turn it
off?

Thanks,
BJM
