Animations in PowerPoint 2002

Carlos

Hi there,
I'm facing an uncommon problem: I use PowerPoint 2000 /
Windows 2000. I made a presentation and sent it to the
client, who has PowerPoint 2002 / Windows XP. All the
animations worked fine. Now they asked me to translate
this presentation into english, which I did. The
presentation ran all right in my computer, with all the
animations and transitions I defined. The problem is that,
in the client's computers, all the animations started to
have a very strange behaviour.
EG1: part of an animated text (one incomplete word) would
not animate; instead, it would be the very first object to
show on the slide. Then they clicked and the rest of the
text, which this incomplete word belongs to, animated.
EG2: an animated text of 3 lines would animate only half
of the first line, and the rest only upon another click.
Anybody, please, any idea of what may be causing such
problems?
Thanks in advance.

Carlos,

This is strange. I don't really know, but it may be an issue with the way
PowerPoint things are displayed. So I think there are some things you can do
to rule out the possibilities.

First, you should make sure you have the latest version of DirectX. That
may not help your current problem, but it is a wise security move. WARNING:
If you have Windows 2000, you MUST have all Service Patches for Win2K in
place before doing this (Courtesy of Austin Myers).

Second, you should try adjusting hardware acceleration:

Third, update your video drivers. They are the interface between you program
and what you see:

Also, try the general troubleshooting material:

"Don't use PowerPoint for anything serious until you've done this":

If that doesn't solve the problem, at least you have narrowed down the
possibilities Please get back to us so we can progress further.

Glen,

Thank you for your answer.
As I was in a hurry to solve that problem, I installed
Office XP and reconfigured all the animations. But the
question remains: what happened?
The new way PowerPoint2002 deals with animations may be an
answer. The funny thing is that this is the first time I
heard about such a problem - I do a lot of presentations
in PowerPoint2000 and, so far, all of them worked perfecly
on PowerPoint2002.
I have DirectX 9.0b, and all service packs are installed.
Also, my video drivers are up-to-date.
Since the problem occured only on an edited file - the
original version of the presentation, in portuguese,
worked fine; I simply retyped the text in english and then
the problems appeared, I don't think it has anything to do
with hardware acceleration.
I opened the presentation on many different computers
running PowerPoint2002, and the very same problem occured
on each one of them. I have 2 computers, both with
Win2000, one with PPT2000 and the other with PPT2002. As
I'm not experienced with PPT2002, I'll have to learn a
little bit to find out the way new animations work.
Again, thanks for youe help. In case you want to see the
problem by yourself, I'll be more than happy to send you
both files (the one that works fine and the one with the
problem). Of course, you'll have to see them on PPT2002.
Regards,

Carlos

Carlos,

I admit it is strange, and maybe a language issue. I would love a copy of
both files, please. It would be nice to have them on hand in case it pops up
in the future. Please remove spaces from my email address to reply. As for
getting used to the new animation, stick with it as imho, it is worth it.
Personally, I find them extremely useful when done properly. But I remember
the first time I used them I was bit confused <g>.
