I have a slide with 8 bullet-points. I want to ask the audience for answers
which relate to the bullets and as they get them make them appear on screen.
For example if they give me answer 4 then I can press a button associated
with that answer it will then appear. Is this possible and if yes, how?

Yes, in PowerPoint 2002/XP and above, you can make use of trigger animation
to do so.
