Animating words on one slide

I am trying to have 8 different lines of text enter and exit the same slide.

I'm having a difficult time designing it because all of the text is layered
and I can't see what I'm doing.

Is there any way to hide an object while I'm work on another object in the
same space?

I'm using PowerPoint 2003

One help is to use the Select Multiple Objects tool. It's a checklist
of the objects on your slide. Find the one you want selected for
editing or animation programming from the list. If it's not on the
Drawing toolbar, click the last little drop arrow on the right side of
the Drawing toolbar, click Add or Remove Buttons, and then click
Drawing. Click the last button it offers, which is Select Multiple
Objects. It will then appear on your Drawing toolbar. Click it and
it's pretty self-explanatory from there.
