Please help I cannot remove an email from my outbox. I have tried to
understand the advice that other people have given. But to no avail. Can
someone please explain to me in 'dummies' style. I just dont want to make
the matter worst and I want someone to help this old girl out.

Thanks

Search your system for WindowsMail.MSMessageStore with WinMail closed. You
should get two files as results. Rename each file to
WindowsMail1.MSMessageStore. Then start WinMail.

From your start menu, right click windows mail, click on properties, click on
security, for special permission click on advanced, click on effective
permissions, click on full control, and then apply. Now delete your
messages.It worked for me.Good luck

No dice. Clicking on Full Control does nothing for me, and the Apply button
is grayed out. It looks like one would *first* have to enter something in the
"Group or user name" field on that screen.

As long as you are signed in as administrator, you can do whatever you need to
do.There should be "no greying "out of any buttons.

Well, your initial directions said nothing about being "signed in as
administrator." In fact, Vista makes it difficult to be signed in as
The Administrator, although it is fairly easy to get temporary elevation
for some operations. Could you supply the missing steps?

Gary VanderMolen

The directions are wrong if you are trying to change something. You want
Permissions not Effective Permissions (this diagnoses permissions).

If you are adding a user or want to see what your permissions are (after
inheritance and multiple group membership is taken into account) in the
dialog hit advanced, then find, then you can select any user or group, hit
ok and it will insert the name.

Most Microsoft employees cannot use a mouse (do you think Help or Search is
usuable with a mouse - it's not). This is why it such a long winded
procedure as they think everyone just types program code all day so wants to
type user name, domains, and group names.

I feel we are getting a little off topic here, which is probably my fault. I
build my own puters so I always set them up as an administrator. But going to
user accounts, you can set up as Admin. You as administrator, can do whatever
needs to be done.As far as Vista only letting you "temporary elevation"I have
not encountered that problem. All I was trying to point out,is that this
method worked out for me.

I'm with Lynda, how do I delete something that will not delete???!!!

Hello any body, thanks Bob

I have been trying for over a week to remove two emails from my inbox. It's
making me crazy. My computer, Dimension DM 061, came with Vista, Boy do I
miss XP.

We are going through the same problem. We made to advanced. Where is the
effective permissions? There is no effective permissions in adavance. We can
not find it anywhere! HELP!

I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM IT STARTED TODAY AT 11:09AM. tHE BIG DEAL IS i
AM NOT ABLE TO SEND ANY OUTGOING EMAILS. WHAT DO WE DO???

Send your outgoing emails with web mail.
It's not ideal, but it's better than nothing.

Move the old mail stores and let WinMail create a new one then draf and drop
the eml files into WinMail (not the folder via Explorer).

Tried that?

Steve, thanks for the information!

I was able to change one WindowsMail.MSMessageStore (the one in the
WindowsMail/ backup folder) to WindowsMail1.MSMessageStore but when I tried
to change the other one in (Windows Mail) to WindowsMail1.MSMessageStore, I
get a message -this file is in use.
So it wouldn't take the change. I triple checked -the Windows Mail Program
is closed. So, I don't know what's stopping the change. I also looked at
the other "permissions" method but I already have a check under "Allow" in
the Permissions for SYSTEM box. So, far no luck using any method to empty my
deleted items folder. It just keeps growing. Each individual email message
indicates "Message could not be displayed" in the text box.

Any further ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks! craig
