"An unknown error etc new twist"

Ok got that on my outbox folder and using the removal of the message store
files I got back everything and cleared the outbox. all emails were in
recovered area so i moved them to the correct folders.

next morning recovery occurred again and I had to move them again. During
today all boots show winmail.exe chewing cpu for 5 minutes after boot .
Tonight I checked and all 1 folder's emails are the same email contents
different subjects but same internal message. I tried deleting 1 and all now
show "message could not be displayed"

Ran wmutil it failed to run, highlighting message set as unread change to
read still same error.

Ok I did export my emails recently so they are safe but when will MS get off
their butts and fix this Posts here indicate this a beta issue 8 mths ago.
All posters here are trying to help, but I suspect they are limited by MS's
inaction.

No new thoughts?
Thanks for any thoughts

Addendum I used the suggestion of right clicking on the folder with the
blocked emails and deleted the whole folder. Then I deleted the folder from
the deleted folder.

So as I had an exported email folder I tried importing but WM caould not
find files of the correct type. Got over this by dragging all eml files into
WM folder when I reopened WM. Not neat way, funny I could not import but will
reseaech that.

Mcafee.... I am mod for them so passed this error onto them for comment.

Either get rid of McAfee or seitch to Thunderbird, although McAfee might
kill that, too.

Either get rid of McAfee

Are you suggesting that McAfee is the cause of this bug?

I don't think so, I don't have any AV running, and I've now got it in
2 mail folders.

2 mail folders.

Seems since it started each boot recovers mail or newsgroups. Today it
recovered newsgroups I unsubscribed to several boots back. In fact, I had 3
recovered copies of the newsgroup 1 for each boot since the last time I
cleaned up the recovered folder.

We all hear of workarounds we do that as well in the mcafee forum but if
something is broken we stir the powers that be for a fix. I assume noone here
can stir the pot for the suffering masses.

Any way to disable the recovery mechanism?

I think the reason this problem is so difficult to diagnose is because
there is more than one failure mechanism.
Those who have anti-virus scanning their email seem to be more prone
to the problem, but it's not the only cause.
Some firewall, anti-spam, anti-malware, and security 'suite' programs
also scan emails.

Ok I will disable all email scanning including spam killer Remember WM has
its own junk mail feature .

The next boot I get back a recovered Newsgroup that I hadnt accessed in 2
days gees this is getting painfull.

Will try the disabling spamkiller and VS email scanning and see what goes,
thanks for your comments

Yes, I'm saying I think McAfee is causing it.
Mine went away when I uninstalled AVG (not just disabled). I'm now using
Avast.

Totally uninstall McAfee, remove the mail account, close WinMail, then open
WinMail and add the account back.

The only way I know to get rid of it is to wipe out the database and the
message store by moving all of it to another directory. Then you have a
clean start.

Yeah that was the only way I got things working. Though emporting your
emails weeking as a backup was what saved me as my fiddling with the WM files
messed everything up for some reason and I had to rebuild from my backup.

Still the question is why no fix?

Because "programming by committee" is not an efficient way to develop or fix
a product.
