AMD64 SP2

Mr Orcades

Hello all,

I am having problems trying to install Win XP SP2 on a 'Shuttle XPC' case
with an AMD64 CPU. After a bit of browsing on 'google' I think it could
possibly be something to do with DEP (Data Execution Prevention), and it
seems that disabling this new SP2 feature will solve this problem.

Has anyone else had problems with SP2 and AMD64 CPU's? And did you find a
workaround?

I tried the workaround at the following link but so far no joy.

Cheers

Thanks for the info, but it appears that the AMD64 and SP2 are not the best
of bedfellows, so far I have not seen anything mentioning similar problems
with 32 bit AMD processors.

The only known problem with SP2 on an AMD 64 processor is if you have a file
called mpegport.sys. It is part of the drivers for some Hollywood video
cards. Otherwise, DEP has been running perfectly on every AMD64 I have
installed it on.

Thanks for the info, however the PC in question does not have a 'Hollywood'
video card, so that rules mpegport.sys out. I will maybe just have image the
disk, and try a clean install to see if the problem persists.
