AMD FX going to Socket F?

So a Socket AM2 4x4 may not be possible afterall.

AMD favours Socket F for 4x4 Athlon FXs? | Channel Register

That would mean the only thing - all 4x4 stands for is an attempt by
AMD to lure high end gamers to higher margin Opteron 2xxx platform -
registered RAM et al. No 2s on the cheap :-(
And quoting the article at the link above "systems starting at well
under $1,000" will be what? $999.99 with some nominal RAM and HDD
(like 512MB/100GB) included? Specs please

:The processor company has said it will push the 4x4 platform
:this coming Christmas in systems starting at well under $1,000,
:according to AMD executives.

All I can say about that is, not a CHANCE in hell!

I'd be surprised to see systems under $2k, with the SLI'ed video cards
they are talking about this being made-for...

Severely disappointed too, unless this is yet another bit of
misunderstanding about AMD's plans? Perhaps 2-way SMP is still possible
with AM2, but AMD is going to reserve that for X2's only, while it may
have bigger plans for FX, like 4-way or greater? I know there's nothing
in the article that suggests that, but it's a guess.
