was just wondering what average idle temps other people were getting with

Seems high. My 4200+ at idle runs at around 30-35 deg C.

Depends on a lot of things. Room temp, case temp, Cool N Quiet disabled,
etc. That's high if using CnQ, idling about 1000MHz. Probably about normal
for a hammer core idling at 2400MHz.

not using cnq it for some unknown reason crashes my pc

well i cleaned the heatsink and processor polished up the base of the
heatsink till it gleamed as much as alloy can and reapplied thermal compound
brought it down to idle of 45 but still too high for my tastes.

any reccomendations on a good skt754 heatsink that is easily available in
Australia?

Arctic Cooling Freezer 64, ~$35 or so, Im using one on X2 3800.
Zalman (forget the model number possibly VF7500??)

Maybe 1 or 2 others thet may fit.

yeah yeah

I think ~40C is ok for stock clocks and voltages and ~50-55C if
overclocked.

My newcastle 2.4ghz is running 38C idle (room temp 75F).
Max gets up to 59-60c with old copper thermalright heatsink and
2900rpm 92mm fan dialed down to 2500rpm for noise reduction.

those .13 um cores run hot.

FYI, the 2.2ghz 754 venice core oem with the SSE3 extensions runs
very cool and is faster than the 2.4ghz cpu at things that use those
SSE3 extensions. It may be cheaper than some heatsinks at $49 or
so.
