Always wait for network at startup

I have enabled a GPO setting on a Windows 2000 server
to "Run logon scripts synchronously". My Windows 2000
clients adhere to the rule and do not load Windows
Explorer until the login script is complete. My Windows
XP clients however, do not. I ran across a KB article
stating that I should enable "Always wait for the network
at computer startup and logon" setting. However, I do
not have that option on my Windows 2000 server. If
anyone can suggest how I can add that option to my
server, or any other way to get the XP client to adhere
to the rule, I would very much appreciate it. Thanks.

Set the always wait for network setting locally on the XP client and see if
this helps. The settings for what is available settings wise is stored in
the adm's. This setting being new to XP is not included in the windows 2000
adm's. This is why you don't see the setting in the group policy editor.
You can edit your group policy via XP client and this will include the new
adm's. You have to be careful because this has caused some problems for
customers.
Make sure this is something you need first.

You will need to update administrative template for your GPO. It will be
automatically updated (unless you explicitly specified in the settings not
to update) when you open appropriate group policy from the machine which has
newer template file. For your case I believe you did not install W2k SP4 -
it should have the updated template. Or you can install administrative tools
on XP box and edit the GPO from there, or manually import the updated
template - actually, there are many options.
