Alternatives to replication

Dave Rudolf

Hey all,

I have the MDB file that is on a drive that gets backed up regularly, but the
backup software doesn't seem to work if that file is locked (i.e. if someone
has Access open during the time of the mirror). So, we started using
replication, but that causes problems with the ODBC driver for Access so that
other programs can't always write to the database.

So, I was wondering what else might be done to make backup copies of the
database?

Thanks,

Dave

Here are some options:

-Get better backup software like "Open File Agent"
-Upsize to SQL Server (which does not have the file locking issues)
-Force the application to close before your backup either in your
application or via your network services
