alt-key not recognized

Couple days ago I purchased a Compaq Presario 3218 laptop with Vista Home
Basic. It worked fine for about a day but suddenly stopped recognizing the
alt key in my keyboard, so I can't switch windows with alt-tab anymore.

HP Support suggested deleting and updating the keyboard controller, which I
did to no avail. They layout is set to Spanish Latin America, but I have the
same problem in any layout.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Neither alt key works. I don't think it is a defective keyboard, as it is
only a couple days old and it worked at first.
