Allocating memory in Windows 2000 Pro

Dave Jones

We are running models on a Windows 2000Pro IntelP4 based
machine with 2GB RAM and 6GB virtual-mem.

The application tries to allocate more than 2GB, and fails
on "hardware cannot allocate more than 2GB" error.

Is there any way to increase Windows 2000Pro memory 2GB
memory allocation limit?

Regards.

As far as I know you can split the memory allocation
between two separate hard drives to attain more virtual
memory (assuming you have a second hard drive)Per
information I have read this is a good idea and helps.

No, not really Frank,

the problem is not with virtual mem, but the Windows-2000
application- loader limit that prevents a single app
allocating more than 2GB.
(We already have 6GB vmem allocated across two physical
HD, the limit for a single disk for vmem is 4095MB).

Dave.

The limit is 4 gig per folder. Just not as convienient as putting it on
2 drives. There is a KB article describing the procedure.
