All XP computers down

Hello,

I have 4 computers running on my home LAN. Three of these are wired
Ethernet connected to a Linksys router (WRT54G); all of those are running
Windows XP Pro SP2. I also have a notebook running Windows 2000 and
connecting wirelessly to the router. Last night, everything was fine. This
morning (after a Windows software update, I noticed), none of the XP
computers can connect anywhere. Can't get to each other, can't get to the
admin page of the router, nothing. The Win2K PC can get to the admin page of
the router and out to the web, but not to any of the XP computers.

Is it possible that the Windows software update messed up my ethernet
connections? I know it's farfetched, but I'm grasping at straws here. What
should I check?

Did you do a hard reboot of all hardware to include the modem and router?

I rebooted the router and the PC's several times. I haven't rebooted the
cable modem, but the wireless Win2K machine is working fine, so that isn't
the problem.

Temporarily connect one of the XP machines directly to the modem. Make sure
you have a firewall running on the pc first. You may have to go through a
procedure to register the pc's MAC with your ISP as well. The Windows update
may be a coincidence. It is odd that only the wired portion of your network
is not working. Bypassing the router will confirm if the router is the
problem or not.
