"All Programs" list behavior

This is an 'old' question, but I haven't seen any 'good' solutions so
far. Maybe you have one...

In the "All Programs" menu, I have too many programs to fit my screen
using the standard Windows XP settings.

A) I already am at the highest resolution comfortably usable for this
size screen (19").
B)There's not much 'grouping/categorizing' which I can do, before it
makes an issue with convenience. (I can do some, but I'm afraid that
I'll forget about certain programs...)
C)I now have it set to 'scroll menu'... but that is VERY SLOW.

Are there any other alternatives? Is there a way to change the "All
Programs" menu to have a scrollbar instead of the up/down arrows? A
scrollbar would allow me to quickly drag down to near where I want
alphabetically.

Thanks

If you right-click on your start button and select properties, then
select customize, try unchecking the option for scroll programs. What
this should do is open up multiple columns if a single column is too
large for your display, rather than scrolling that single column. If
that doesn't suit your fancy, I'd seriously reconsider creating some
additional folders to regroup similar applications to shorten your
list. Look in both the All Users\Start Menu\Programs folder and your
profile\Start Menu\Programs folder under Documents and Settings to
create folders and reorganize. I'm not sure about your concern that
you might "forget" about certain programs, everything that shows up in
All Programs should be in one of those two folders.
