All messages are the same...

zbowdawg

ok... I have rebuilt my message store several times, but eventually what
happens is that when I go in to read a message, all the mesages become the
same message except for the Subject line.

What is causing the message store to continually become corrupt and how can
I prevent it from continually happening?

It's not that the messages are the same, they were correct when I originally
received them, but when I move them to my Personal Folders and shut down,
when I come back, all the messages are the same and I can not see the true
e-mail for the subject line.

Any ideas?

You are moving newsgroup messages to user created folders? When in the
newsgroup: View | Current View. You likely have Show All Messages & Group
Messages By Conversation checked. The most common setting. However, when you
are in the local folder, you probably have only Show All Messages checked.
This is the default setting and the one preferred by most for local folders,
and the setting is global. Change it in that folder and it will change in
the Inbox as well.

As a workaround, when you go to read these saved messages, hold down the Alt
key and tap V+V+G. This will thread the messages back together and hen
leaving, Alt - V+V+G will reverse the threading for the other local folders.

Sorry... I am not referring to Newsgroups... these are my actual personal
e-mails... when I move them to a personal folder, eventually, all the
e-mails become the same message in that personal folder. It is happening
with all e-mails that I move to folders I have created.

Any other suggestions? I would like to stop this from happening or i am
going to have to go back to Outlook.

Thanks,
Zbowdawg

Is anything checked besides Show All Messages? View | Layout. Are you
sorting by From? Are these folders in the WinMail folder tree, or out of
WinMail altogether?

Everything is pretty much default settings... "Show All Messages" is
selected and the folder tree is the default.

Basically, if I receive an e-mail, read it, if I decide to keep it I will
move it to a folder in the "Personal Folder" that I created. When I shut
WinMail down and re-open it, every e-mail in the folder displays the first
e-mail ever put in the folder instead of the actual e-mail I am selecting to
view. The Subject Line shows correct, just the body of the e-mail is that of
the original e-mail in the folder.

Try creating another new folder and see if the problem persists using that
folder.

I put my thinking cap on, but nothing else is jumping out at me just yet. If
I come up with something, I'll be sure to post back. Right know, I'm hoping
someone else has a thought.

Most instances of database corruption in Windows Mail can be
attributed to overly aggressive antivirus activity. Which antivirus are
you running?

Email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for
reasons explained here:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

If turning off the email scanning function does not resolve your problem,
do a trial uninstall of your antivirus. If no improvement, you can
always reinstall it. Instead of uninstalling your antivirus, consider
upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to
suffering bad effects from overly aggressive antivirus programs.

Thanks for the suggestion... as far as Windows Live Mail, I don't really
need another e-mail account, I have enough as it is. I think I will just
switch back to Outlook.

Thanks for the help.

Outlook 2003 and newer work fine.
But you don't need another email account in order to use WLM.

G

Gary VanderMolen \(MVP\)

Windows Live Mail is not an email account, it is an email program.
You can continue to use any existing mail accounts you have in
Windows Live Mail. In fact, Windows Live Mail will import them
automatically from your Windows Mail.
