All links invalid on Win2000 Desktop and all program menus

After experiencing iexplorer crash (the windows closed
unexpectedly), I rebooted my system to find that all my
links to all applications are invalid. Obviously, the
registry has been touched.

I reinstalled from the Windows 2000 CD (the 'update'
installation not the 'clean' installation) and got no
improvement. Is there a fix for this problem?

Interestingly, iexplorer runs from desktop (it is the only
item on the desktop or menu without a generic icon).

Logging is as another user does not change the situation.

Any ideas?

Can you right click a link (shortcut?) and go to properties and "find
target"? Perhaps you lost a drive? What is the error you get when you try
to click the links? What links exactly are we talking about here desktop or
start menu or the default links?
