ALL Excel files opening automatically after programme launch

When Excel.exe is launched, all Excel files that are stored on the Hard Disk
are opened (one after the other) - I have about 110 files all being opened
within a couple of minutes. Something must be triggering this to happen but
I cannot think what. Anyone else have an idea ?

How can I revert to my Excel programme opening normally ?

Many thanks...

You can start Excel normally by either holding down the SHIFT key
when starting Excel, or going to the Windows Start menu, choose
Run, and enter

Excel.exe /safe

Then, once you're in Excel, go to the Tools menu, choose Options,
then the General tab. There, ensure that the "Alternate Startup
Directory" box is empty.

I hasten to add that I HAVE read and tried the remedies without any success,
given in the previous posts/answers given by :

Tools - Options - Default file location

and

multiple excel sheets keep opening up

Thanks for the reply !

see my additional comment on this thread ....

When SHIFT + Excel.exe is launched same problem

Have opened Excel with "Excel.exe /safe" and see that the "Alternate Startup
Directory" box was empty anyway... so that was not causing it.

I am still baffled by the multiple excel documents opening... at the moment
i am having to use "Excel.exe /safe" - can I make a short-cut for this until
I find a solution ?

Many thanks again...
